If Idaho National Laboratory work to produce synthetic fuels & chemicals using nuclear fission wasn't shelved (due to funding cuts) back in the 1980s then we'd have the potential to be energy independent by using nuclear heat to produce petrochemicals and fuels.<br /><br />Also, check out the ITER fusion reactor project in Cadarache, France<br /><br />http://www.iter.org/<br /><br />The 'energy' business is simply a capital play.
