I called it the 'New Boom Bust Cycle'

http://www.planbeconomics.com/2011/01/31/peak-oil-and-the-new-boom-bust-cycle/Markhttp://www.planbeconomics.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861605.post-53917178391632760342011-10-07T02:10:41.833-04:002011-10-07T02:10:41.833-04:00If the looming global financial recession really s...If the looming global financial recession really sets in then peak oil as a political issue will remain in limbo. I don't think the powers that be want to accept the (theoretical) link between oil price and economic recession, because that would dash their hopes that the train can be put back on the tracks and keep on running.

Funny... I have, to date, being seeing that denial was a feature of the climate debate, but that oil depletion would be so smack in our faces that denial would not be so easy.

It's not hard to explain to individuals the reality behind economic recession but from my experience politicians just don't wish to hear it.Chris Harrieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02370032392696620448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861605.post-14483953805932012942011-10-06T10:38:56.310-04:002011-10-06T10:38:56.310-04:00Thanks Kurt.

In other words, economic contraction and pain caused by expensive energy somehow proved concerns about peak oil wrong?

And now the mantra is 'See, high prices enable expensive energy!'

What did they think the peak oil worriers worried about if not high prices leading to demand destruction (read: perpetual economic contraction)?Mike "Pops" Blackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11764915910014484680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861605.post-66258293860492986572011-10-04T13:28:11.661-04:002011-10-04T13:28:11.661-04:00Not surprising as they all serve the same master. ...Not surprising as they all serve the same master. . .Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861605.post-76650887701573391532011-10-02T20:24:30.145-04:002011-10-02T20:24:30.145-04:00It's not just the economists that I have a low...It's not just the economists that I have a low opinion of.
