Religion is supposed to be a multigenerational culture feedback, but for the most part, our religions and cultures have just become more marketing venues. Humans are no smarter than yeast, and they need external feedback mechanisms (even if they have to trick us) in order to moderate desires and prevent us from disassembling our own systems of feedback.
