I can remember when they were saying that electricity from nuclear power would be "too cheap to meter." But that day never arrived. Nuclear technology not only did not save the day, but has generated a legacy of deadly waste. Similarly, shale gas not only won't save industrial civilization, it will leave much groundwater contaminated with deadly chemicals.
