Certainly that's a problem that lies in the near future, as oppposed to climate change or other dangerous developments, that lie far more into the future, and maybe the motivation to do something about the bee-thing is greater than to do something about a problem that plays out slowly, as Global Warming, soil erosion etc. But it is a positive sign nevertheless.

And another thing, did Catton write primarily about ecology and sociology in "Bottleneck", or are other factors, like peak energy, Renewable energy sources and so on included as well?ogonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861605.post-42887347399699437342011-05-22T08:17:45.048-04:002011-05-22T08:17:45.048-04:00Ogo,

But they don't always, even when this is the case.

I invoke Catton to show what the consequences could be if we simply continue with business-as-usual. Perhaps when it comes to the honeybees, we won't continue with business-as-usual. But will we as a species address the myriad other ecological challenges we face in time to avoid the worst? That is the biggest of all questions.Kurt Cobbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05330759091950742285noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861605.post-90966289216297613962011-05-22T07:57:23.535-04:002011-05-22T07:57:23.535-04:00Hey Kurt,

It is the refuge of the weak. When power is corrupt, it is useless to "speak truth" to it.
